Marie creates artwork using stoneware and porcelain clays, drawing primary inspiration from the sea and coastline, along with structures that resonate with these themes. Over time, she has developed a range of glazes that reflect this inspiration, notably in the ‘Seafoam’ and ‘Odin’ series.
The Odin Series draws upon the engine houses of Cornwall's tin mines and an enduring fascination with collecting naturally occurring stones featuring holes. These stones, predominantly flint, have been shaped by the relentless power of water and are commonly known by various names, such as hag stones, adder stones, witch stones, and holey stones. They are believed to possess magical properties that protect against malevolent spirits. Marie’s preferred name for these stones are "Odin stones"
